Stree movie Story
Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi steal the show with hilarious dialogues, while Shraddha Kapoor, opposite Rao, brings in a track of romance. This lightheartedness is complemented by a horrifying plot about a town petrified of an annual visit of a female spirit who reportedly preys on men, leaving behind only their clothes. She would knock on the doors of people’s houses and call out to the person inside in a loved one’s voice, most often their mother’s. Upon hearing a familiar voice, the person would naively open the door, and subsequently die in the next 24 hours. This legend spread like wild fire, wreaking havoc in the city.Amidst panic, people then found a solution: ‘Nale ba.
To ward her away, the town’s residents would write on their walls, “Nale Ba” which means ‘come tomorrow’ in Kannada. The witch would read the inscription on the walls and turn away, only to return the next day and the cycle would continue perennially.Of course, the story spread like wildfire around Bengaluru. Soon, as time went by and people realised they had no time for urban legends and superstitions, the story died and so did the witch of Nale Ba. Another urban legend that had a city in its grip included Monkey Man in 2001. It also died a natural death but not before it led to mass hysteria.
Though Stree appears as deliciously mainstream Bollywood as a horror comedy can get, the origins of the real story behind Stree are based in Kannada urban folklore. However, the makers have adapted the Bengaluru legend and interpreted it a tad differently. The film is set in Madhya Pradesh’s Chanderi — a town that borders woodland and is home to several historically significant monuments — and with the change in setting come some changes in the story.
The most notable of which, so far, has been the witch’s backstory. Even though the origins of Nale Ba aren’t known, Pankaj Tripathi’s character in Stree is heard narrating the tale of the witch: once the most beautiful woman in the land, she was a courtesan whom every man desired. She finally found the one who loved her not for her looks but her soul. Though its not clear, something happened that lead her to turn into the witch that the characters in the film know her as.
The legend became nothing short of gospel truth in Bangalore, to the point that 1 April is widely celebrated as ‘Nale Ba’ Day even today. Several people at the time report hearing knocks on their doors at night, and a number of unexplained murders took place as well.Everyone interprets a story differently. And I have also not made it in such a way to suggest that you have to believe it or not believe it. It really depends on the perspective of the viewer. The story is out there. It’s happening in our country. It’s up to you whether you want to believe it or not.

Stree movie REVIEW
So naive are the people of Chanderi, they believe the moon — called Chanda Mama in fairytales — is literally their uncle. So says a book of village lore hidden inside a copy of the Kamasutra in the local library. Many of its pages have been folded into paper-boats, but the book matters because Chanderi is under attack from a female spirit. Sighted on the four nights of the annual puja, she abducts only the menfolk while leaving their clothes behind. Beware, boys who walk home alone at night.
Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, is a comedy about a lovelorn tailor who falls for a girl who may or may not be the ‘Stree’ the town fears. She visits the town annually on the days of the festival, never enters the temple, and, perhaps most damningly, doesn’t own a mobile phone. Could young Viki, a tailor so accurate he can measure women with his eyes, have found himself a potential girlfriend? Or is this girl who wants him to make her lehenga the kind of bhoot who likes her clothes bespoke?
Stree Box-office collection
Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao film Stree seems to be unstoppable when it comes to its box-office collection. The movie, which opened on August 31, has already made Rs 125.57 crore at the box-office and is still going strong. But that isn’t the only achievement of Stree. The film has also beaten the hugely successful Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer spy-thriller, Raazi’s lifetime run at the domestic box-office.
